Eastside Wins Home Opener
The Eastside Blazers bounced back in a big way on Wednesday night by defeating Fort Wayne Smith Academy 57-24. The Blazers came out fast in the first quarter much like they did in the season opener against the Barons winning the opening stanza 18-3. Things continued to roll in the second quarter as the boys went into halftime up 36-11. Eastside kept things going in the second half winning the half 21-13. Clay Minnick led the way in the home opener scoring 15 points which included 3 threes in the third quarter. Ryder Reed had 9 points and 5 steals, Nolan Baker scored 9 and brought in 10 rebounds. Junior EJ Miller finished with 7 points and 4 assists, and Blake Lesser and Noah Acquaviva each had 6 points. Loden Johnson had 3 points and 3 assists. As a team, the Blazers knocked down 7 threes in the game and had only 7 turnovers. This win was the first career win for Head Coach David Prokop.
The Junior Varsity picked up their first win of the season as well, winning 40-24. Bryce Strong was the leading scorer with 16 points including 11 in the third quarter. This victory was the first of Coach Reiner's career.
Next up for Eastside will be Canterbury High on Tuesday December 5th with JV tipping at 6:00pm and Varsity following. Saturday December 9th will be Youth Night as we take on Prairie Heights. We will be recognizing our 3rd/4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams at halftime of the varsity game as well as having our high school players signing autographs after the game. Lastly Tuesday December 12th is Throwback Night at the Old Butler Gym, girls will start at 6:00pm and boys will follow.
