Blazers Split Weekend Road Games
The Eastside Blazers (5-5,1-3) kicked off the 2024 year with two road matchups on back to back nights as they traveled to Fairfield Friday night and then into Ohio for an Old Gym game at Edgerton. Friday's NECC matchup was part of a triple header that saw the boys and girls junior varsity teams play first followed by an intense girls varsity game and to close out the night was our boys varsity. Although the result on the scoreboard was not the result we were looking for as the Blazers fell 31-55 to a very talented and skilled Fairfield team, the coaching staff was extremely pleased with the progress this team made this week in practice and throughout the game. Clay Minnick led the Blazers in scoring with 15 points while adding 6 rebounds and Ryder Reed added 6 on the night. The JV team fell to Fairfield as Colton Crothers was the leading scorer with 9 points.
Saturday night the positive progress continued as the Blazers took another step forward when they picked up a victory to spoil Edgereton's throwback game in front of an electric crowd. Clay once again lead Eastside in scoring as he finished with 18 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists but the Blazers were much more balanced in terms of points. Reed added in 10 points with 6 rebounds, Loden Johnson had 9 points and 9 rebounds, Nolan Baker had 7 points and 3 rebounds, Noah Acquaviva finished with 6 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists, and Connor Abplanalp rounded it out with 2 points and 2 rebounds. Eastside dominated the glass out-rebounding the Bulldogs 42-30 on the night. The junior varsity team came up short 20-44, Bryce Strong was the leading scorer for the Blazer with 6 points off of 2 threes.

Next up for the boys is a busy week which includes a double header JV style on Monday night as the girls JV plays at 6:00pm followed by the boys JV around 7:15pm against Lakewood Park. On Tuesday the boys and girls varsity teams travel up to Hamilton for the first round of the NECC tournament. Girls tip at 6:00pm followed by the boys at 7:30pm, with wins both teams will play Wednesday night back on Gerb Court.
