Blazers Travel the State Line,
Come Back with Big Road Win
After a rough outing against Lakeland last Friday, the Blazers (4-3) looked to bounce back as they made the trip across the state line into Ohio where they took on the Edon Bombers (2-4) Tuesday night. In what always is and was a highly competitive and physical matchup, a challenge that our boys needed to come through and that's exactly what they did. Eastside came out in the first quarter playing great team defense by not allowing the Bombers to score until there was just 26 second left in the quarter. Clay Minnick scored 3 baskets to help win the quarter 10-3. The second quarter the roles reversed as the Blazers struggled to score and headed into halftime up just 2 points at 15-13. The third quarter both offenses woke up as Eastside won the quarter 14-11 behind 4 three pointers from Minnick and a great zone read for an easy Noah Acquaviva layup.
The final quarter was a slugfest between both teams playing very physical and neither team was going to give up without a fight. Eastside although they were outscored in the 4th quarter came away with the victory 36-34 after coming up with the game's biggest defensive stop.
Minnick led all scorers with 18 points on the night, his 6th straight game in double digits. Acquaviva added in 8 points despite getting in foul trouble which limited his minutes. Loden Johnson had 5 points including a big 4th quarter three. The junior varsity team fell 18-35 to Edon to bring their record to 2-4 on the year.
The Blazers will now head into Christmas Break with a winning record and will get a few days of practice before our next game which will take place on Saturday December 30th for an afternoon tip with junior varsity starting at 1:00pm and varsity following at 2:30pm. Other notable upcoming games include a triple header at Fairfield on January 5th as both the boys and girls junior varsity teams will start at 5:00pm, girls varsity at 6:30pm, and boys varsity following at about 8:00pm. The following day the boys will travel back into Ohio for a throwback game against Edgerton. Tickets are limited and are on sale in the the athletics office during school hours.
Lastly the Eastside Blazers Boys Basketball Program would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! As a program we have many things to be thankful, happy, and enjoying this time of the year and one of those is being able to be apart of this great Butler community!
