Blazers' Team Defense
Leads to NECC Opener Victory

image0 (8).jpeg

Eastside took to Gerb Court in front of it's largest crowd this season for "Youth Night" as they took on conference foe Prairie Heights for the NECC opener and the boys did not disappoint. After a rough night at home on Tuesday vs. Canterbury a new spark was created this week in practice on the defensive side of the ball. This spark and momentum carried over form practice into Saturday night's game as Eastside came out on top 48-34.

After coming out a little slow to start the game, we were able to close out the quarter only down three at 8-11 after Ryder Reed scored 4 points in the opening stanza. Loden Johnson stole the show in the 2nd quarter after knocking down a three in the first, he connected on four more field goals in the second including 2 more threes to give him 13 points at the half and the Blazers were up 22-18.

The third quarter the intensity continued on both ends of the court as Eastside won the third quarter 18-8 behind 11 points from Clay Minnick. The fourth quarter finished tied giving the Blazers a 14 point victory. Loden led all scorers with 19 for his career high while also grabbing 4 rebounds, Clay finished with 13 points and 4 rebounds, and Noah Acquaviva scored 9 and had 3 rebounds. Eastside shot 8 of 10 from the free throw line.

In junior varsity action the Blazers also picked up their 2nd win of the season defeating Prairie Heights 48-47 in a thriller. Micah Miller was a beast on both sides of the court all night finishing with 19 points. In Junior High news our 7th and 8th grade teams traveled to West Noble to play in a 4 team tournament on Saturday morning. The 7th graders won both games and were crowned champs. The 8th grade team battled some shorthanded adversity but played very well and came up just short in each games.

Next up for our Blazers is our "OId Gym Throwback Game" on Tuesday December 12th starting with the girls' varsity game at 6:00pm and the boys' varsity to follow. You won't want to miss this!
